SLAMtario Spoken Word Festival
The SLAMtario Spoken Word Festival is an annual event that brings together artists, organizers and fans of spoken word poetry in the province of Ontario. Held in Toronto in mid-July every year, the Festival’s main goal is to nurture, advance and grow the spoken word community in Ontario.
SLAMtario aims to fulfill its mission by hosting professional development activities, showcases, open mics and slam competitions that encourage participation of all people interested in spoken word in the province.
At the core of the festival is the Ontario Poetry Slam Championships, a tournament pitting the top slam teams in the province against each other in a series of competitions. The top team wins the title, a cash prize and bragging rights for 12 months.
Slam series in Burlington, Guelph, Hamilton, Kingston, Kitchener-Waterloo, Lanark County, London, Mississauga, Ottawa, Peterborough, St. Catharines, Toronto and York Region are currently eligible to send teams to participate in SLAMtario.
